Back On Track

I decided to make an effort to blog more. With this being my senior year, I want to remember it in the future and start practicing writing on my own terms, not just for school and work.

So welcome to the new and improved Clear Blue Skies blog. Although there might be a cloud - or many - in the sky, my posts (I hope) will always provide a smile. Cheesy, I know. This will especially be important because it's supposed to thunderstorm all day tomorrow.

So let's get started. Well, today I started my fourth internship of my college career. Lockheed Martin will be my home for 20 hours a week this semester and I can't wait to dive in.

Here are some of the highlights from my first day:

1. I have my very own office, complete with notepads and pens galore. (It's really the little things that make me happy).

2. I received a perfect purple water bottle complete with the company logo.

3. HR gave me a fancy leather bound notepad for all those high level meetings I'm going to attend.

4. And the best part is I have a 10 minute commute to work, which is shorter than my old commute to high school.

I think this semester is going to be the best, and busiest, one yet.

A few oddities by Megan:

- Krazi Kebob remains the best quick restaurant in College Park. Hands down.

- We need more fans at Maryland football games. It's a great time to be a Terp, so students and alumni should show the nation their Maryland pride.

- Puddles is my favorite mascot - sorry Testudo.

- Testudo is my second favorite mascot and needs to get fatter.

- It feels like fall in Gaithersburg and I love it.

Hiatus

After a long hiatus, I am back. The past month has been filled with Spring Break and job searching that has made my days feel too short. Finally, I have an extra few minutes to spare so I have decided to blog about Easter.

Easter isn't just a time to sit on a man dressed as a white rodent's lap and hope he brings you Starburst Jellybeans in a basket. It's a time to go to church and reflect. This Easter I went home Saturday afternoon, because I worked Water Polo that morning (we won!), and had fun with my family and Vince. As always, it was nice to sleep in my own bed and have my own bathroom.

Sunday we went to 8 a.m. mass. I think Easter is a time to enjoy the season, including the warm sun and blooming flowers, so it is essential to go to mass in the morning. Otherwise, you miss what makes this season great.

After a delicious home-made breakfast, I napped and completed homework. For dinner we went to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Virginia. We ate lamb, party potatoes, carrots, asparagus and salad - which was all delicious. Then for dessert we had strawberry shortcake.

Dinner was filled with great company and entertainment. Not only did we watch the Master's, but we played with toy chirping chickens and hung spoons from our noses - you gotta love the kid's table.

While the whole day was great, the best part was relaxing on the Potomac "dock" that flanks the Ford's Landing development. With views of the Capitol and the National Harbor, it is a great place to soak in the Easter serenity and remember to smell the roses.

Until next time - MG.

Watch

So, yesterday I finally returned riding boots I bought online during the first week of classes at Macy's. The whole process was much easier than I thought it would be. I went to Columbia Mall, about a 20 minute drive from College Park, and the sales clerk was friendly and her service was quick.

After returning the boots, I bought Vince a watch for his birthday/Valentine's Day/two year anniversary. Here is a picture:

Again, the sales clerk was incredibly nice and not too overbearing. Kudos to Macy's and their superb service!

The Help

Weekend

I finally brought my computer back to life today (the battery was dead), so I can explain the best parts of my weekend.

Let's start with Thursday -

Thursday highlights are -
- Getting a free book during my philosophy class on capitalism and justice. A fellow student had a few extras and handed me one.
- Watching Vince play soccer at Cole Field House because he prances when he runs. I'll take a video at his game next week.
- Going to Bentley's at night and ordering my new favorite drink, an Amaretto Sour.

On to Friday -
Friday was even more busy. I ventured into D.C. to visit my friend Amber who goes to GW and to watch the Georgetown vs. Maryland men's lacrosse game with Vince. After eating at Chipotle with Amber and reminiscing about working at Cold Stone, Vince and I ran into some trouble getting to Georgetown. I still don't understand why the Metro doesn't have a stop there, but needless to say we didn't get to the game in time (actually we didn't get there at all). I did learn a lesson though - always get off the Metro at Foggy Bottom and walk, it is so much easier than taking the Circulator bus from Dupont Circle.

The biggest highlight of Friday, besides seeing Amber, was I was finally reunited with my car! Now I can run errands and not rely solely on public transportation and friends.

Saturday -
On Saturday I saw "Acts of Valor" with friends. Here is the trailer from YouTube:

It is a true war story that made me realize how lucky I am to have soldiers fight for my freedom. Although the many fight scenes made me close by eyes and cringe, I recommend you watch it to fully understand the service soldiers provide.

With all that being said, I leave with some final insights:

- Amaretto Sours are delicious, but are sometimes too sweet.

- Bacon on a George Forman Grill is better than bacon in the microwave.

- I now love Skinny Soy Vanilla Lattes from Starbucks - thanks Caroline!

- I could eat the Italian Night Club from Jimmy Johns every day.

- Apparently I really liked food this weekend because the last four insights are about food.

- I can't wait for Spring Break even though I am not going anywhere.

- I watch too much HGTV for my own good.

- Sleepy Sundays are the best type of Sundays.

Until next time, enjoy lying in bed and watching HGTV while eating an Italian Night Club and drinking a Skinny Soy Vanilla Latte on me.
